The Makita DUX18Z is a battery multi-function power head (18V LXT) — one brushless drive unit that takes a range of attachments. A split shaft makes it easy to store and transport.
The power head has two speeds (high/low) and variable speed control on the trigger, so you can match the pace to the job. Battery protection cuts power automatically when the battery runs low. Interchangeable attachments turn one machine into a line trimmer, brushcutter, hedge trimmer, pole saw, cultivator, blower or edger.
The multi-function power head suits a property where several different garden jobs need doing but you don't want a separate powered machine for each. One drive unit and a couple of attachments cover lawn, hedge, branch and bed care.
Separate machines for each job take up space and money, and each needs its own battery. One drive unit with interchangeable attachments solves that — swap the attachment and the same machine does the next job. Attachments are sold separately.

Caution
- Before starting, make sure the attachment is locked firmly into the coupling — give it a pull to check — because a poorly locked attachment can come off at working speed and fly loose.
- Always follow the safety rules of the attachment you've mounted — the same drive becomes a very different hazard as a trimmer, pole saw or cultivator.
