Makita DDG460ZX7 is a cordless earth auger powered by two 18V LXT batteries (36V) with a brushless motor, for drilling clean, repeatable holes in soil without a petrol engine.

It produces up to 136 Nm of torque and runs at two speeds — 0–350 and 0–1,400 rpm — for holes up to 200 mm in diameter. Automatic Torque Drive (ADT) adjusts speed and torque to the load, soft start and an electric brake improve control, and forward/reverse lets you back out a bit jammed in heavy clay. It includes a reaction bar and auxiliary handle to absorb torque, a torque limiter to protect the gears, and an LED work light; an adapter accepts auger bits for common petrol augers. On two 6.0Ah batteries it drills roughly 155 holes with a 150 mm bit or 90 with a 200 mm bit. Supplied as the drive unit; the Ø200 mm auger bit is available separately from us.

It suits fencing, decking, planting, and landscaping work — fence posts, tree and shrub planting, ground screws, signage — where repeated, even holes are needed and hand digging is too slow.

Digging post holes by hand is slow and tiring, and a petrol auger means fuel, fumes, and maintenance. A cordless auger gives controlled, repeatable holes with the reaction handling to keep the work safe and steady.

Warning

  1. Always hold the tool with both hands and brace yourself — if the bit snags on a stone or root, the high torque (136 Nm) whips the machine around hard enough to sprain a wrist or pull you off balance.
  2. Check the location of underground cables and pipes before drilling — the auger reaches depths where power and utility lines run.
  3. Keep loose clothing, cords and glove cuffs away from the rotating bit — the spiral winds fabric up in an instant and drags your hand with it.
